Northern, Central and Southern Vietnamese: Similarities, Differences, and Which to Learn
If you want to learn Vietnamese, you’ll realise quickly that the accent you choose affects what you hear, what your teacher teaches, and how natural you sound to the people around you.
Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnamese aren’t three different languages. The grammar, writing system, sentence structure, and most everyday vocabulary are shared, although some strong local accents can take more work for an outsider to follow.
But you still need to choose a starting point. I had the same questions:
